Senior Project Manager - Client in the energy industry (hybrid remote position)

Our client is looking for a Senior Project Manager in the energy industry. The Senior Project Manager is a key role supporting the client development of new assets across the province. This role involves managing the overall scope, cost, schedule, and risks of assigned projects, including team resource management, project communication, stakeholder engagement, contract development and administration, and change management. This role contributes to the development of new processes and enhanced reporting to manage project activities and effectively communicate project status at all levels.

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 10 years of experience leading large scale power generation, transmission, distribution or industrial projects as well as a proven background in engineering and/or industrial construction management. The candidate’s experience must demonstrate strong leadership, collaboration, communication, and stakeholder engagement with internal and external groups. As a senior role within the department, mentorship and coaching of project teams and junior employees is expected.

On a daily basis, you will have to:

  • Provide effective leadership to medium or large sized project teams to define project requirements and develop and maintain project deliverables within all knowledge areas (scope, schedule, cost, risk, procurement, etc.) for effective delivery of complex, large-scale, high-risk projects.
  • Manage and resolve any project risks or issues and execute change control as necessary ensuring that project deliverables are completed within baseline budget and schedule and compliant with SaskPower standards, policies and procedures.
  • Oversee the preparation of contract request for proposals and provide contract administration throughout the project life cycle to ensure contractor compliance with agreements.
  • Monitor project critical paths and trends, identify delay factors, and lead the development, presentation, and approval of schedule recovery plans.
  • Maintain knowledge of industry developments and best practices related to area of specialization and adapt them to SaskPower's operational environment.
  • Develop and implement appropriate quality, change management and communication strategies.
  • Anticipate, assess, and manage project risks during execution.
  • Assess, develop and implement new technologies, standards, processes and methodologies.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure necessary and qualified personnel are assigned to projects.
  • Represent SaskPower on sensitive matters both internal and external to the corporation.
  • Manage and report on project metrics including progress, earned value, baseline, costs, and scope.
  • Prepare progress reports and delivery presentations to clients, senior and executive management.
  • Ensure project plans and activities are implemented in accordance with applicable technical, environmental and safety regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Provide and demonstrate leadership, team building and direction to project personnel including SaskPower and Contractor employees.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Direct experience leading large scale, complex power generation, transmission, distribution or industrial projects in either a greenfield or brownfield environment.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience as a project manager in an electrical utility or industrial environment working with medium to large sized, multidisciplinary project teams delivering large scale, complex projects.
  • 5 years of experience working in the electrical industry or in an industrial business (mining, oil and gas, etc.) as an engineering or construction management leader.
  • Bachelor’s degree or diploma in an Engineering or related field.
  • Related professional designation(s) and/or certification(s) (PMP, Prince2).
  • Advanced ability to strategize, plan and organize.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills.
  • Demonstrated experience proactively identifying and managing project risks.
  • Results oriented thinker, with the ability to influence and manage complex and confidential projects/issues with sensitivity and professionalism.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and enhancing stakeholder relationships through local and indigenous vendors, government, and other external agencies.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and deal with priority requests.
  • Ability to manage tasks and direction effectively.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Strong team leader with the ability to influence the performance of others.
  • Ability to foster a positive and collaborative culture focused on safety, innovation and teamwork.
  • Demonstrated skill in SaskPower’s competencies (Building Relationships, Customer Focus, Impact and Influence, Judgment and Decision Making, Problem Solving and Innovation).
  • Must have a continuing record of professional development.

These roles are expected to be based out of the client Head Office in Regina, Saskatchewan. The client does offer flexible work arrangements that may allow the Senior Project Manager to be based out of an alternate corporate office.
